Bali Dive Charter FAQ: Certification, Safety, Insurance & Booking Answers

What do most people ask before booking a Bali dive charter?

Most divers want to confirm five things before they commit: whether their certification covers the dive, how safety is handled, what insurance they need, the cancellation terms, and how payment works. This page answers each one directly. Bali Diving Charter is an independent private charter operator working with certified local dive guides, so the answers below reflect how we actually run trips around Bali and Nusa Penida.

If your exact question isn’t here, message us on WhatsApp at +62 811-2859-0000 or email info@balidivingcharter.com and a real person will reply, usually the same day.

Do I need to be certified to join a dive charter?

For certified dives, yes. To join the diving portions of a charter as a diver, you need an open-water certification from a recognized agency such as PADI, SSI, or NAUI. Bring a digital or physical copy of your card and, ideally, a recent logbook so your guide can match the dive site to your experience.

If you’re not certified, you still have two options:

  • Discover Scuba / intro dive — a non-certified shallow dive led one-on-one by a guide in calm, suitable conditions. This is a guided experience, not a certification.
  • Snorkel-only spots — several Nusa Penida sites work well for non-divers who want to stay at the surface while the group descends.

Certain advanced sites have a depth or current profile that suits experienced divers better. We’ll tell you honestly if a site isn’t a good fit for your level rather than putting you somewhere uncomfortable. Manta Point and the Crystal Bay area near Nusa Penida, for example, can have strong currents on some days, and we route around conditions when needed.

How does Bali Diving Charter handle safety?

Safety comes down to people, equipment, and planning. We work with certified local dive guides who know the seasonal currents around Bali and Nusa Penida, and every trip follows a standard pre-dive briefing covering depth limits, hand signals, buddy pairing, and the surface signal plan.

Here is what we check on a typical charter day:

Safety item What we do
Weather & currents Reviewed the morning of the dive; sites swapped if conditions aren’t safe
Guide-to-diver ratio Kept small so guides can actually watch the group
Equipment Inspected before loading; tanks filled by the dive shop we source from
Surface support Boat and crew stay with the group during dives
Emergency plan Briefed before entry, including the nearest support point

We don’t dive in conditions we judge unsafe, and we won’t pressure anyone to descend if they’re not ready. If you have a medical condition that affects diving (heart, lung, recent surgery, pregnancy), tell us before booking so we can advise honestly.

Do I need dive insurance, and is it included?

Dive insurance is not included in the charter price, and we strongly recommend you arrange your own. Standard travel insurance often excludes scuba diving, so check your policy or buy dedicated cover such as DAN (Divers Alert Network) before you travel. Good dive insurance typically covers hyperbaric (chamber) treatment and emergency evacuation, which ordinary travel policies may not.

We carry operational coverage for running the charter, but that is separate from personal accident and medical cover for you as a diver. Two practical notes:

  • Buy your dive insurance before the trip, not on the dive day.
  • Keep the policy number and the insurer’s emergency hotline saved on your phone.

If you’re unsure what level of cover you need, message us and we’ll point you toward the questions to ask your insurer. We won’t sell you a policy, because we don’t.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Our standard policy is built around weather and fairness. As of June 2026, the working terms are:

Situation What happens
You cancel 7+ days before Full refund of any deposit, minus payment-processor fees
You cancel 3–6 days before Partial refund or reschedule, depending on the date
You cancel under 48 hours Deposit is usually non-refundable
We cancel for unsafe weather Full refund or a free reschedule, your choice
Sea conditions cut a dive short We work out a fair partial refund or a make-up dive

These figures are current as of June 2026 and may change, so always confirm the exact terms in writing when you book. The key point: if we call off a dive for safety, you are not penalized. Weather around Nusa Penida shifts fast, and we’d rather reschedule than push a bad day.

How many people are on a charter, and can I book a private trip?

Group size depends on the charter you choose. Because we run private charters, you can book the boat for just your group, which keeps the diving relaxed and the guide attention high.

  • Private charter — your party only; you set the pace and (within reason) the route.
  • Small group — a handful of divers, kept intentionally small.
  • Couples / solo divers — welcome; solo divers are usually paired with a guide or buddy.

For mixed groups where some people dive and others snorkel, we plan sites that work for both so nobody is stuck waiting on the boat with nothing to do. Tell us your group’s makeup and certification levels when you enquire, and we’ll suggest a route that fits.

Can I rent gear, or do I bring my own?

You can rent. We can arrange a full set of rental gear, sourced from the dive shop we work with, so you only need to bring yourself. When you book, send us your sizes and we’ll have the kit ready.

Typical rental set:

  • BCD and regulator
  • Mask, fins, and snorkel
  • Wetsuit suited to Bali’s water temperature
  • Tank and weights

If you prefer your own equipment, bring it. We just ask that you let us know in advance so we don’t double-book rentals, and that any gear you bring is in safe, serviced condition. We’ll do a quick check before the dive either way. Bring your own mask if you can, since fit matters most there.

How do I pay, and what does a charter cost?

Pricing depends on the route, group size, and number of dives, so we quote per trip rather than posting a single flat rate. As of June 2026, payment usually works as a deposit to confirm your date, with the balance settled before or on the dive day. We’ll confirm the exact amount and accepted methods in writing when you enquire.

A few honest notes on cost:

  • Quotes are date-stamped; high season and fuel costs can shift pricing, so a quote from months ago may differ.
  • Gear rental and any intro-dive supervision are itemized, not hidden.
  • We don’t advertise reviews, ratings, or awards we haven’t genuinely earned, and we won’t quote a price we can’t honor.

How do I book or ask something not covered here?

The fastest way to get a real answer is to contact us directly. Tell us your dates, group size, certification levels, and whether you need gear, and we’ll send a clear quote and a suggested route.

  • WhatsApp: +62 811-2859-0000
  • Email: info@balidivingcharter.com

We’re an independent charter operator, not a faceless booking platform, so when you message Bali Diving Charter you’re talking to the people who actually run the boat. Ask the awkward questions about safety, currents, or your certification level. We’d rather over-explain than have you guessing on dive day.
